My friend and I were discussing being at the warm beautiful beaches of Miami. We agree that the water was so relaxing – such a beautiful turquoise color like no other and that you could float forever. Except for the Jellyfish. While somewhat icky, they were not the Portugese Man of War with the long strings – oh, no – those I would not even get into the water with! These little critters who were just floating along were somewhat small and clear. I thought that as long as I was aware of what is around me I could out-run them and just enjoy the warm sea enveloping me as I drifted along. So I opted for staying in and just being aware rather than missing the fun. I came away so relaxed and with a great big smile on my face. Ahhh….
I feel that this is a good metaphor for life – stay out of the water if there is danger- move on and find something else to do. But if there are just some inconveniences and things not totally perfect, (“Yes, but...Jellyfish!” – to borrow a line from my friend) - just keep an eye open, and make a decision to go for it.
Why wait until everything is just as you want it to be? If you do, you will realize too late that nothing will ever be ‘perfect.’ And you will miss out on so much. Our “Ahh” moments need to be seized upon. They are what add up to our everyday happiness. So go ahead – swim with the ‘Jellyfish’ that float into your life and scoop up the joy all around you.
